BALANCE & MOVEMENT

Balance & Movement  •  Ball Pools  •  Positioning  •  Soft Play  •  Weighted

Proprioception, often referred to as the sixth sense, is one of the most important in any sensory diet, along with kinaesthesia and the vestibular system. They are required to organise and achieve movement, balance and control of the body. Play and activities encouraging the proprioception and vestibular senses, including 'heavy work', deep pressure input, bouncing, rocking, crawling, pushing, pulling, running, sliding, lifting, climbing, swinging, spinning, crashing, and vibration, all provide calming input to the body, developing body awareness, balance and motor planning, and help organise and increase alertness. Also use balls to encourage aiming, throwing and kicking. Care should be taken to prevent overstimulation.

BENEFITS: Promote movement, provide calming input to the body, developing body awareness, balance, motor planning and control, resulting in better concentration.
