SEATING AND POSITIONING
Many children just can’t sit still. They wiggle and wriggle around a lot, and slump or sit poorly, very often due to low muscle tone, balance and awareness. As a natural survival, due to poor communication between their muscular and nervous system, they move about a lot in order to calm their nervous systems. Good positioning, and seating or cushions that allow freedom of movement, will promote a positive manner, enabling them to function more appropriately, to be more focused, with fewer distractions. Positioning is the foundation for all movement, and can cause negative effect on other systems including the digestive and respiratory systems, difficulty reading, crossing the midline, and affect confidence and self-esteem.
BENEFITS: Promote movement, provide calming input to the body, developing body awareness, balance, motor planning and control, resulting in better concentration.
